At the end of October I hopped on a bus with a group of lovely ladies and took a journey to Houston for the International Quilt Festival.  It was an inspiring and humbling experience that I hope to experience again.

And to end the year … I received an email that informed me that my quilt ‘Propelled Pixels’ was accepted into the 2015 QuiltCon show and it will be on display in Austin, TX at the end of February.

I would say that overall – it was a good quilting year!  And with that I’ll toast to an even better one in 2015!

As I mentioned on my blog yesterday – I’ve had to alter my platform for selling patterns per a new tax law.  You CAN however still purchase printable PDFs on my new ‘My Shop’ page.  It is completely a work in progress and I’ll be working diligently to get it up to snuff.

I hope you had fun following along with the Twisted Traditional Quilt Along in 2014.  And maybe now when you look at a block you’ll be able to see it in a new way!

New Digital Pattern Sale Policy Plans–EU Tax Laws

Blocks - 2014 qal bloks

Social Media has been buzzing with posts regarding the new EU tax laws that will take affect in the new year. These laws require every business that sells digital products on line to add, manage and pay separate taxes to 28 different countries within the EU. This is not feasible for the small amount of sales I make selling patterns.

The impact to the small business and especially craft business is great. There has been talk that Asia, US, CAN and AUS will follow. What does this mean? I can only sell through my e-shop to a restricted number of countries. At this time, I cannot sell through Etsy and Craftsy using PayPal as they will take no responsibility for the collection, management and payment of the tax to the 28 countries of the EU.

This law was created to stop large corporations from setting up on-line digital product sales in countries where no tax was imposed. This new tax will be worth billions to the EU.

Therefore on December 31st, 2014 all my digital patterns will be removed from Craftsy and Etsy in preparation of the new EU VAT tax laws that will be enforced worldwide from January 1st, 2015.

I’m currently working on a ‘My Shop’ section on my blog.  Here you can go and order the printable PDF patterns of my quilts and my block tutorials that I currently have for sale in my Craftsy Sale.  Within 48 hours of your purchase I will email these patterns to you.  Free patterns will still remain in my Craftsy store.

I’m hoping Craftsy and Etsy can create updates to make selling patterns via their sites feasible again as I know it’s nice to be able to download patterns immediately after purchase.  But at this point, this is what I feel I have to do to this to comply with the new law and still be able to run my business.  Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Time to Reorganize

Every year between Christmas and New Year’s I take a break from sewing to reorganize my area.  Except for this year – well, sort of.  I’m reorganizing my area but I just have too many last minute projects that I want to complete before Season 6 of Project QUILTING begins to take a complete break in sewing.  My amazing husband is helping me with this task which EXTREMELY helpful as I may have a hard time focusing.

My plan – sew a little, clean/organize a little.  I have until Sunday to have the major renovations done …

IMG_6712

To keep me honest – I’m posting some ‘before’ pictures.  You all need to hound me to show you my ‘after’ pictures so I keep at it!

IMG_6713

I was going to edit them … but … why bother?!

IMG_6715

Yes – that’s a punching bag.

IMG_6717

Just a few obstructions when I look at my design wall …

IMG_6719

Hmmm….

I have some work to do!  See you around!

Are you cleaning up your workspace too!?  Please share links to pictures and we’ll all help keep each other honest!

Sponsors of Season 6 of Project QUILTING

Season 6 of Project QUILTING starts in just ONE week!  Let’s take a peak at the sponsors I have lined up for Season 6 (so far … there is always room for more!)

My First Quilt Show

IMG_5385Just before Thanksgiving, Pip and I, took a road trip to my beautiful hometown of Port Washington, WI.  I was hanging my very first quilt show!

IMG_5349

My good friend, Nicole, owns Java Dock Café – a lovely coffee shop in the quaint downtown of Port Washington.  IMG_5352Many of the quilts are ones I made during Project QUILTING challenges and they adorn all the walls I the sitting/drinking upstairs of the café.

IMG_5356

I know it’s winter time but I just had to hang some of my patchwork kits in the kid area to give the patrons hopes of spring and warm weather!

IMG_5359

I hung the show while the shop was open and people were enjoying each others companies along with a delicious cup of coffee.

IMG_5361

It was so fun to hear the ooh’s and ahhh’s as each piece went up.

IMG_5362

Many comments were, “I’ve never seen quilts like that!”  Just the kind of words I like to hear!IMG_5367

The quilts will remain hanging through December 31st so if you have some time and want to take a  little trip to Port Washington – be sure to stop in at the Java Dock, grab a warm cup of coffee, a handmade treat, and go and see some of my quilts in person!IMG_5380

the Gypsy Wife Quilt

At the beginning of this month – I made my December ‘A Lovely Year of Finishes’ Goal to finish my Gypsy Wife Quilt Top.  My ButtonIMG_6647I surpassed my goal!  Not only did I finish the quilt top, but Barb Raisbeck of Quilts by Barb quilted it and I got it bound!  The whole quilt is FINISHED!IMG_6651It was actually a lovely day this morning so my daughter, Cedi and I hiked up to the deer fence to do a quick little mini photo shoot of the finished quilt.  IMG_6657

You can really see the quilting in this shot.  Barb chose to do long vertical lines that sort of wave there way down the quilt.  It creates a really cool illusion and texture to the piece.

When I started this quilt a few months ago I actually did an initial fabric pull to use in two different quilts – the Gypsy Wife of course, but also my Nested Churn Dash

IMG_6671Here they both are side by side to show you just how different quilts can look even when they start in the same place.

IMG_6697

This was a fun quilt to make.

Merry Christmas!

Or Happy Holidays – whichever you prefer!  I hope you all have a wonderful day full of fun, laughter and cheer!
We gave each other some gifts last night – Santa’s coming in the morning.  I just had to share a few of the handmade ones!
IMG_6611
Jared had Capri’s name and he took his Grandpa’s un-lockable gun cabinet and added some amazing, quirky cool shelves in it.  It is now going to be Capri’s cabinet so she has a proper place to store her tea set collection.  She was a little excited.
 IMG_6622
Pip was really happy with her new pillowcase that Cedi made her.
IMG_6625
Cedi loved the scarf that Capri made for her.
IMG_6629
Pip had my name, and with a little help from Capri, made me this fabulous butterfly that I can even color with!  I LOVE it!

Capri decorated a fabric board for me too!  A friend of mine as going to toss it but she made sure to save it because she knew exactly what to do with it!IMG_6628
I have a collection of Christmas tree and Jared and Capri made me a new one for my collection … using the left over from a broken survey tape!  absolutely perfect!
I had Jared and I made him a batch of cookies … his favorite!
IMG_6582
The girls decorate cookies today so they had something fun to leave for Santa.  I’m not sure if Pip decorated more or ate more decorations!
IMG_6599
As you can see they did a wonderful job!
Christmas Eve was fun at our household and I can’t wait to see what today brings us for memories!
